, showing romney talking to an empty chair, trying to symbolize that the president wasn't completely present in that wednesday debate. thanks so much. peter hamby in washington. >> the drop in the unemployment rate is a big headline from the jobs report, but is that what we should be focusing on right now? cnn's chief business correspondent ali velshi weighing in. >> fred, so there are a couple things at play here. first, the unemployment rate, the drop from 8.1% to 7.8%. throw it out, erase it from your head. it doesn't matter. the thing you need to concentrate is the number of jobs that were actually created. 113,000. that's right around where we thought it would be. it's not an inspiring number. it doesn't say that things are bad. it doesn't say that things are good. what you want to be measuring is whether or not over time we are creating jobs. we're adding jobs to the u.s. economic landscape. the unemployment rate measures something different. that's a set of phone calls that go to people's houses to find out whether they're employed, whether they work at home, whether they're self-empl
